Handmade trends for Autumn 2022
Made In Ashford is a small collective of local independent businesses on the high street in Ashford Kent. Our shop stock is constantly evolving and changing with the latest handmade trends.
The Craftship Enterprise CIC also brings a creative workspace to Ashford high street used by the community called The Craftship. Here you can buy the latest craft kits and take part in creative workshops. We have everything you need for a cosy and crafty autumn!
I’ve made a list of some of my favourite handmade trends from our creative small businesses!
1.Macrame
Macramé is the art of knotting rope or string together to make incredible wall hangings, hanging plant holders, bracelets and more. Macramé became very popular in Europe and in the UK in the 1970s when people started making lampshades, hammocks and plant holders. It's a joy to see the vintage 70s macramé aesthetic has become trendy once more. Come in store today to see the latest macramé creations by BittyArt.
2.Resin coasters & bookmarks
Resin has become super popular as a craft material over the last few years. Recently on Instagram and tic toc we have seen a rise of people making resin coasters and bookmarks. Makers videos are incredible to watch and the results are extremely satisfying.
Come in store today to see our collection by Victoria Johnson.
3.Terrazzo Jesmonite
Jesmonite is a more environmentally friendly version of resin and is used to make small trinkets and dishes. Terrazzo is the look of tiny broken chips in different colours added to jesmonite to make a surface pattern. The process of making these dishes is often recorded by the maker on Instagram and tic toc and are incredible to watch.

All the cool kids are going back to school this term with vinyl stickers on their school books and all the cool parents have vinyl stickers on their laptops too!

5.Embroidery hoops
It is a joy to see the love for embroidery become a trend for this Autumn 2022, once a popular pastime for ladies in Victorian times and much earlier. The therapeutic process of creating designs by hand stitching is celebrated once again today.
We have some embroidery hoop kits by Cotton Clara here, once complete hang the hoop on your wall.

Pom poms of all kinds are everywhere this season! Pompom tassels, pom pom headbands, pom pom keyrings and pom poms in vases. We love them all. When you're next in town take a look at some of the pom pom kits we have for sale in The Craftship.
